Michael Chartock

Senior Managing Director, Litigation Claims

Michael Chartock is responsible for developing and managing the Company’s litigation claims business, an initiative that builds upon Gordon Brothers’ deep experience appraising, buying, selling, disposing of, and lending against assets, as well as its multi-year history of monetizing litigation claims.  Michael has practiced law for 30 years, and has worked closely with large and small international, national, and regional law firms throughout that period.  Michael joined Gordon Brothers in 1999.  From 2012-2019 he served as General Counsel of the Company; and prior to assuming that leadership role was responsible for sourcing, structuring, and overseeing complex dispositions for Gordon Brothers, particularly domestic retail and real estate store closings and wind-downs outside of bankruptcy.    Prior to joining Gordon Brothers, Michael practiced corporate law for 10 years, including as Senior Counsel at Harcourt General/The Neiman Marcus Group. He has served in key volunteer leadership positions with the International Turnaround Management Association and several nationally recognized non-profit organizations.  Michael received his BA from Brandeis University and his JD from Cornell University.
